We provide evidence-based treatment for a range of disorders including anxiety, mood disorders, behavioral addictions, personality disorders, and trauma and stress. My overall stance is humanistic and client-centered, and specific techniques utilized include CBT, ACT, DBT skills, and psychodynamic psychotherapy.
Couples Therapy
Our positive approach to marriage and couples therapy provides couples with effective skills to manage and resolve disagreements, rebuild trust, and improve communication. Therapy is based on an integrative approach that teaches skills, improves emotional connection, and helps couples develop a deeper understanding of their relational patterns. Couples therapy is also an excellent tool to reduce conflict, improve emotional and physical intimacy, and heal from trauma or loss.
Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT)
Based on cognitive-behavioral therapy, ACT is an action-oriented approach that emphasizes acceptance of emotions, cognitive flexibility, values, and commitment to take action. While traditional CBT teaches techniques to change your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, ACT suggests that it is actually counterproductive to try to control painful emotions and thoughts. Instead, you will learn to stop avoiding, denying, and struggling with your inner emotions, and rather learn to understand, experience, and accept these deeper feelings. In other words: Your mind's feelings and thoughts are not the problem, the problem is your thoughts and feelings about your mind.
Psychological/Educational Assessments
Assessments, like medical tests, are used to understand the underlying causes of an individual's difficulties. A typical assessment “battery” consists of clinical interview, direct observation, diagnostic questionnaires, cognitive testing, educational achievement testing, personality testing, and collateral interviews. Jackson Psychology offers a full range of assessment and evaluations for both children and adults including diagnostic evaluations for psychiatric disorders, learning evaluations, ADHD assessments, weight loss or cosmetic surgery evaluations, risk assessments, and Autism Spectrum Disorder evaluations.
Sexual Behavioral Problems
Treatment at Jackson Psychology integrates psychoeducational, cognitive-behavioral, and relapse-prevention approaches to help youth demonstrating a variety of inappropriate sexual behaviors. This requires both individual sessions, parent sessions, and family sessions, and formal and informal risk assessments are also available. Previous experience includes both group and individual work through Monmouth County's Probation Offenders Program, 3 years internship at IEP Youth Services (Freehold, NJ), and forensic evaluations for Monmouth County Family Court.
